Prayers © 2001 Gerry Davenport [Music (1993): New Lyrics (2001)]

This is a song is a rewrite of a song that I wrote for Polly Klaas back in 1993. For some reason I felt compelled to write it for her and I did not know her — it was something I thought I could do to help. At the time, I did not have the equipment nor did I the money to record it professionally, so I sent a demo to the Foundation and told them that the rights would be signed over to them and they could do what they wished with it. I heard nothing for months, in fact, I still have not heard from them about it —I do know they were really busy and frantic at the time, so I do not have any bad feelings about it.

I kept the song in my files and every now and then I would play it to try and update it.  When the WTC distaster happened I did not want to be one of the millions of people that were caught up in the pratiotic BS that went on. I did not condone it; however, our government is at fault, and people should not die like that or have the abiltiy to do that to others — that is all I will say about the politics.

I was offered to have two songs put on a local CD that would benefit the NYFD and other organizations with the sales of the CD.  I spent some time looking deep into my heart, soul, and mind about how I really felt.  When I gave them one song at almost 6 minutes, they freaked. Needless to say, I never made it on the CD, but I still have the song, and I am proud of it — I do crack at the end — I got a little choked up thinking about what I was saying.

May it fill your heart with joy and sadness as it does mine.

From a song called “Prayers for Polly” © 1993 G. Davenport

A dream inside a child’s heart to stop the world from falling apart.
We thought our fears were far away. Then it came to us that tragic day.
Don’t just wipe those tears away. Remember why we cried that day.
To all the people in this land, stand up for our rights hand in hand.

Don’t know why it’s going on, the things that we hear.
They did nothing wrong. Now they’re gone. It’s not fair.
We’ll miss them all.

To those who were lost our prayers go out to you.
You can pray for us too make the world right.
To those who were lost our prayers go out to you.
You can pray for us too.

The heart inside a child’s dream, so innocent upon a wing.
To watch their world fall apart, the child’s future and life is scarred.
Hold on to the ones you love. (and let them know how you feel)
Find your strength and rise above. (from the pain and sorrow)

To all the children of this world. (when will we ever learn?)
To live in peace, can we be healed?

Don’t know why it’s going on, the things that we hear.
They did nothing wrong. Now they’re gone. It’s not fair.
We’ll miss them all.

To those who were lost this song goes out to you.
You can pray for us too make the world right.
To those who were lost our prayers go out to you.
You can pray for us too.
